Alice Paul isn't an especially flashy role. While she's definitely the lead, there are 9 or 10 other characters who all get multiple featured moments/songs. And when all those featured performers are in the same category, it can be even more difficult for them to stand out enough to get awards attention.
Plus, as noted already, Suffs is not anywhere near the hit that Hamilton and A Chorus Line were. If it were a sold-out smash I'd bet at least Shaina Taub and probably Jenn Colella would have been nominated in addition to Nikki James. |
