NEW YORK CLASSICAL THEATRE
ANNOUNCES
25th ANNIVERSARY GALA
HONORING
FOUNDING ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
STEPHEN BURDMAN

TUESDAY, MAY 7
AT MANHATTAN PENTHOUSE

New York Classical Theatre (Stephen Burdman , Founding Artistic Director, Matthieu Chapman, Literary Director) is pleased to announce their 25th Anniversary Gala, honoring Founding Artistic Director Stephen Burdman. The gala will take place on Tuesday, May 7 at the Manhattan Penthouse (40 5th Avenue).

New York Classical Theatre will also be publishing a tribute journal, which will be distributed at the gala, and can be purchased separately.

The gala will include cocktails, a seated dinner, and pop-up performances. All proceeds from the gala and tribute journal will support NY Classical's Panoramic Theatre production of William Shakespeare's Henry IV, performing in three Manhattan parks this summer. Tickets for the gala can be ordered through Ovation Tix.

STEPHEN BURDMAN founded New York Classical Theatre in 2000 and is the vision behind the creation of Panoramic Theatre. He initially planned to become a doctor while studying Computer Science in college. On a lark, Stephen auditioned for a production of Hamlet and that experience completely changed the course of his life. He founded NY Classical to give all people the chance to discover classical masterpieces as he did. Since then, Stephen has directed 37 plays for NY Classical (38 with this summer's production of Henry IV!). He holds an MFA from UC Irvine and is an alumnus of the National Theater Institute at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center. In 1989, he was selected to participate in the first young theatre artist exchange with the (former) Soviet Union and has been a member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society since 1994. Stephen has directed over half of the Shakespeare canon and received the 2022 Sidney Berger Award from the Shakespeare Theatre Association for outstanding talent and commitment to the works of William Shakespeare.

ABOUT NEW YORK CLASSICAL THEATRE
Founded in 2000, New York Classical Theatre creates and reinvigorates audiences for the theatre by presenting free productions of popular and forgotten classical plays in public spaces throughout New York City. NY Classical is also committed to developing and producing new plays by living playwrights that enrich and expand society's understanding of what defines a classic.

Over the last 25 years, we have presented 46 all-free productions to over 300,000 people—nearly 30% of our audience lives at or below the NYC poverty line.
Proceeds from the 25th Anniversary Gala will support free performances of Shakespeare's Henry IV in New York City Parks during the summer of 2024.
